Shape Stories in Junior Infants📖🔴🟪
This week, Ms Fahy's Junior Infants reviewed their learning about shapes in Maths through a fun and creative storytelling activity.
We began by reading the book Snippets, a story about paper shapes. The story encouraged the girls to think creatively about how shapes can be transformed into characters, settings and events within a narrative. Through the journey of the paper shapes, the girls saw how simple shapes can be brought to life through imagination, helping to inspire ideas for their own shape stories.
The girls then worked together to examine a range of shape picture prompts. Using their knowledge of shapes and storytelling, they discussed what might be happening in each picture and shared their ideas with their classmates. This encouraged collaboration, communication and creative thinking.
Next, the girls took part in a movement activity around the classroom. As they walked around, they stopped to discuss and answer questions with a partner, helping them to develop ideas for their own stories.
Finally, the girls created their own shape stories and wrote a short summary explaining what their story was about. It was fantastic to see them combine their mathematical understanding with their creativity to produce such imaginative pieces of work.
