4th Class Lines and Angles Investigation
Mr. Wilson’s 4th Class took their maths learning to a whole new level this week by transforming the school grounds into a giant outdoor classroom! As part of their work on lines and angles, the girls went on a Maths Eyes trail — a hands-on investigation designed to spot vertical, horizontal, diagonal, parallel, and perpendicular lines all around them.
Armed with clipboards, teamwork, and plenty of enthusiasm, each group explored every corner of the school — from the playground markings and basketball hoops to the garden fences and classroom windows. There were passionate discussions (and the occasional friendly debate!) about whether something was truly parallel or just “kind of diagonal.”
The activity sparked impressive critical thinking and collaboration, as the girls used mathematical vocabulary in context and justified their reasoning to their teammates. A little friendly competition added extra excitement, with groups tallying up their discoveries to see who could find the most examples.
It was a fantastic way to connect classroom learning with the real world, promoting curiosity, observation, and problem-solving — all key elements of the new Maths Curriculum. By the end of the lesson, the girls had sharpened their Maths Eyes and proven that geometry really can be found in every corner of Beaumont!
