4th Class Non Newtonian Liquids!
This week, things got a little gooey in Mr. Wilson’s 4th Class! The girls experimented with a strange and wonderful substance called Oobleck. It’s a non-Newtonian liquid — and yes, that sounds like something from outer space, but it’s actually a super cool mix of just cornflour and water!
Oobleck doesn’t behave like a regular liquid or solid. When you squeeze it, it feels solid — but the moment you let go, it melts through your fingers like slime. That’s because it doesn’t follow the usual rules of physics, making it a great example of a non-Newtonian fluid.
The class had a brilliant time poking, tapping, squeezing, and even 'running' on it! Beyond the fun and the mess, the experiment taught the children important scientific skills: asking questions, making predictions, testing ideas, and working together. They even tied it into learning about states of matter, materials, and how pressure affects liquids in unusual ways.
