4th Class Puppetry Extravaganza!!
Mr Wilson’s 4th Class recently undertook some major creative projects inspired by an unexpected love of the Muppets! After enjoying a rainy-day lunch watching a Muppet movie with our very own Kermit puppet, the class became fascinated by the magic of puppetry and decided it was time to create some puppets of our own.
We certainly did not rush into it! First, the girls carefully designed and planned their puppets’ appearance, personalities, and characteristics. We even held hilarious “Meet the Puppets” sessions using only our bare hands to practise bringing characters to life. There really is something magical about puppets, and we wanted to capture that magic ourselves.
Then came the messy part! Armed with mountains of felt, ping pong balls, suspiciously stinky socks, and what seemed like every hot glue stick in Cork, the classroom transformed into a puppet workshop. The results were incredible — the craziest, funniest, and most imaginative creatures and characters began to emerge!
We even enjoyed a Puppet Café out in the sunshine, where everyone spoke to each other entirely through their puppets. The characterisation and creativity on display were fantastic.
Of course, every great puppet deserves a great stage, so behind the scenes, Mr Wilson began building a very special puppet theatre for the class. The children eagerly watched it take shape, offering ideas, suggestions, and plenty of expert advice along the way. It truly became a whole-class project.
Emma, Rosemary, and Cara came to the rescue with their sewing skills. It really was wonderful, with everyone sharing their talents to help one another.
Over the past week, the puppet theatre has transformed into something truly tremendous.
The only thing missing was a script!
Thankfully, the girls were more than ready for the challenge. Working in pairs and trios, they wrote their very own puppet show scripts.
Finally, showtime arrived, and what a success it was. The class had enormous fun performing their puppet shows, bringing their wonderful creations to life for all to enjoy. We used Mr Wilson’s newest gadget, face microphones, to really enhance the performance! It felt so professional!
A fantastic celebration of creativity, teamwork, imagination, and fun!
