4th Class Science - Homemade play dough

5th Sep 2025

Mr. Wilson’s 4th Class had great fun this week with a very hands-on science experiment. As part of our work on the States of Matter, we made our very own playdough from scratch using flour, salt, and water.

The girls investigated how the ingredients changed when mixed together and how the texture transformed from dry powders and liquid into a soft, squishy solid. To make it even more exciting, we added food colouring and ended up with a rainbow of different results.

Because it was such a messy investigation, we set up outside in the yard. There was lots of laughing, mixing, sticky hands, and plenty of scientific discussion as the girls compared their colourful dough creations.

This experiment helped us see how materials can change state when combined, and gave us a fun and practical way to explore solids, liquids, and mixtures in real life.
