Bacteria Detectives in 4th class!
Mr Wilson’s 4th Class recently became scientists as they began learning all about bacteria, germs and how they spread. To explore this, the class carried out a fun (and slightly gross!) experiment using slices of bread.
Working in groups, the pupils rubbed the bread on different surfaces around the school to see where the most bacteria might be hiding. Before starting, the class had great fun brainstorming and predicting which places would be the dirtiest.
Some of the locations tested included the toilet seat, door handles, the classroom floor, and even Mr Wilson’s phone! Each slice of bread was sealed in a bag and labelled so we can carefully observe what happens over time.
Over the coming days and weeks, the class will monitor the bread and watch as mould begins to grow. This will help us see just how many tiny microorganisms can live on everyday surfaces and why good handwashing is so important.
The class are very excited (and a little bit disgusted!) to see which slice of bread grows the most mould. We will be watching closely! 👀
