Climate Change and Sustainability in 5th class
Rang a cúig enjoyed learning about climate change and sustainability this month across different curricular areas.
In History, the girls learned about the development of energy in Ireland from the past to the present.
In Geography, we studied the River Lee, exploring its features and the towns it flows through. We also learned about Inniscarra Dam, a hydroelectric power station located along the River Lee.
In Science, the girls learned about renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. The girls engaged in a fun STEAM lesson where they made their own wind turbines. We tested the wind turbines, and many of them spun in the breeze!
In English, the girls took part in an oral language debate, sharing ideas they had developed during a free writing lesson on how to live more sustainably.
Overall, the girls really enjoyed learning about sustainability and climate change through a thematic approach, which helped connect the topic across different subjects.
