Exploring Patterns in Junior Infants
Ms Fahy's Junior Infants have been having great fun exploring patterns in lots of different ways!
We began by learning what patterns are and how to spot them around us. The children went on a pattern hunt in the classroom and discovered patterns in everyday objects.
We then explored how to identify the core of a pattern and practised making our own. The girls created beautiful pattern bracelets, carefully repeating colours and shapes to continue their patterns.
Using teddy bears, we made different types of patterns such as AB and ABB patterns, helping the girls to understand how patterns repeat in a structured way.
We also linked our learning to music through a fun game of patterned musical chairs. Each girl created a core sequence using different materials. When the music stopped, they looked at the pattern in front of them and had to extend the pattern. The girls had the best time dancing and making patterns outside!
It has been a week full of creativity and discovery—a whole lot of pattern fun
