Harvesting Thanks in Junior Infants

20th Nov 2025

This week, Ms Fahy's class had so much fun learning about Thanksgiving! We read the story 'Pete the Cat: The First Thanksgiving' and discovered how the Pilgrims travelled on the Mayflower, met the Wampanoag people, and learned important new skills — like growing crops and finding food — thanks to the Wampanoag’s help. . The children loved hearing how the Pilgrims held a big feast as a way of saying “thank you” to the Wampanoag people for all their help — a celebration that became the beginning of Thanksgiving as we know it.

We were extra lucky to have Cece, who is from America, share her own Thanksgiving traditions. Her colourful poster was full of fun facts, favourite foods, and family celebrations, and the girls absolutely loved it.

To wrap up, everyone added a leaf to our Gratitude Tree, drawing something/someone they’re thankful for. Just like the first Thanksgiving was all about giving thanks, our tree helped us think about all the people and moments that make us happy.
