Mr Wilson's 4th - Weathering the Weather – Ár dTuairiscí Aimsire Féin

9th Jan 2026

In Irish lessons, writing can often mean answering comprehension questions, but this time, we decided to shake things up and go full broadcast mode!

The girls are currently planning and writing their very own imagined Irish weather forecasts, just like real presenters on the news. Using our Google Classroom setup, they worked in collaborative documents, sharing ideas, tweaking sentences, and supporting one another, while also relying on the ever-trusty pen and paper to jot, plan, scribble, and rework their ideas.

Instead of copying set phrases, the girls explored and adapted eiseamláirí teanga to suit the kind of weather report they wanted to deliver. Would there be storms? Snow? A dramatic warning to the nation? Anything was possible!

For inspiration, we watched the iconic clip of Teresa Mannion reminding us all to “Don’t make unnecessary journeys” , a moment of Irish broadcasting history that instantly set the tone. Serious faces appeared, dramatic pauses were practised, and weather warnings suddenly became very intense.

Next up, the girls will practise their foghraíocht, assign roles (presenter, reporter, weather expert!), and rehearse their scripts. The final step? Recording their reports using a green screen to create fully fledged, realistic Irish weather forecasts, complete with maps, symbols, and a touch of drama.

From collaborative writing to confident speaking, this project brings Irish to life in the most engaging way possible. Bígí ag faire amach… the forecast is looking very exciting! 🌈🎤
