Mr. Wilson’s 4th Class Become STEM Buddies for Ms Connell’s Senior Infants!

21st Nov 2025

This week, Mr. Wilson’s 4th Class took on a brilliant new role in our school as they became STEM Buddies for Ms Connell’s Senior Infant class!

The hall was full of excitement as the 4th Class girls led a series of hands-on STEM stations, guiding the younger pupils through fun, engaging, and carefully designed activities. Each station explored an important scientific or mathematical idea, with the older girls helping the infants question, test, and discover.

Here’s what we explored together:

🧲 Magnetic Propelled Cars – Senior Infants raced small cars using magnets while the 4th Class explained how magnetic force can create motion without touching the object.

✈️ Paper Airplanes – Buddies tested different designs to see which flew best, learning about aerodynamics in a playful and accessible way.

🏗️ Tallest Tower Challenge – Using only dry spaghetti and play dough, teams experimented with stability, balance, and structural strength.

🐝 Bee-Bot Maze – The Senior Infants learned early coding skills by sequencing directions, supported by 4th Class coders who helped programme the Bee-Bots through tricky mazes.

🌉 Lego Bridge Building – Pupils investigated how to build the strongest bridge using LEGO, discovering what shapes and supports create the best stability. Our class mascot, Kermit the Frog tested out the bridges for us!

The 4th Class girls were fantastic mentors—patient, enthusiastic, and full of encouragement. The Senior Infants loved having “big buddies” to guide them, and together both classes learned through collaboration, curiosity, and lots of laughter.

It was a wonderful afternoon of STEM learning and leadership, and we can’t wait for our next STEM Buddies adventure! 🌟
