Mr Wilson's 5th Class trip to UCC

18th Oct 2023

The girls in Mr Wilson's class embraced their inner scholars this week as they received a tour of Cork's famous University UCC.

We began our day by getting the bus to Cork City, and walking through our 'Beautiful City'. We passed historic sites like the old Cork City walls, St Finbarr's Cathedral, and Beamish and Crawford brewery, started by William Beamish who owned the land where our school is built!

When we reached UCC we had a quick break for lunch, and then went to the student centre to begin our tour. Our group started at the famous UCC archway, where our amazing tour guide explained all about the UCC crest, and how it was bad luck to walk over it!

We then learned about the 'curse' of the Quad, and made sure we didn't walk on the grass!

We then went to the observatory on UCC grounds and saw the historic telescopes and learned how the technology had changed over the years!

We finished our tour in the Honan chapel, where we saw the beautiful mosaics and stained glass depiction of the saints. It was a fantastic day.

On the way back, we stopped at Cork's historic English Market as some of the girls are doing their history project on it. We ate no pigs trotters or tripe or drisheen though!

It was a brilliant day out! Thank you UCC!
