First day Robotics in Mr Wilson's 4th Class
🐝 First Day in 4th Class – Bee Bot Maze Challenge!
Mr. Wilson’s 4th Class started the new school year with an exciting team challenge. Using lollipop sticks, the girls designed and built their very own mazes, then programmed Bee Bots to navigate through them.
After a long summer break, this activity was the perfect way to reactivate our teamwork and problem-solving skills. The classroom was full of excitement as groups tested their designs, adjusted their pathways, and refined their coding instructions to help their Bee Bots reach the finish line.
✨ What are Bee Bots?
Bee Bots are child-friendly programmable robots shaped like little bees. They move forward, backward, left, or right based on the instructions entered. They are a fantastic tool for introducing children to the basics of coding and computational thinking in a fun, hands-on way.
-
Teamwork & Collaboration: Children worked together to design mazes, plan sequences, and debug errors, learning the value of clear communication.
-
Problem-Solving: Each maze required the girls to think logically, test ideas, and adapt strategies when things didn’t go as planned.
-
Spatial Awareness: Navigating the Bee Bots helped children visualise distance, direction, and angles.
-
Introduction to Coding: The simple step-based programming nurtures computational thinking and gives pupils an early foundation in coding.
-
Creativity & Design: Constructing their mazes from lollipop sticks encouraged imagination, design thinking, and practical hands-on building skills.
