The Wonderful World of Water 💧🌊
Ms Fahy's Junior Infants have been very busy over the past few weeks learning all about water across different subjects.
In History, we learned how people used to collect their water from a well long ago. The children compared this to how we get water today and realised how much easier it is now. We took on a fun challenge to move water from one bucket to another using different tools such as spoons and cups. This helped us to see which method worked best for carrying water, just like people in the past had to figure out. It also helped us develop our understanding of capacity in Maths while having lots of fun.
In Science, we learned about the water cycle through the story of Remi the Raindrop. The children really enjoyed exploring the different stages through experiments, with the “rain in a jar” activity being a firm class favourite!
Another exciting challenge was to design and make an umbrella for Incy Wincy to keep him dry. Through this, we learned about waterproof and absorbent materials and tested out which ones worked best.
We also got creative in Art using watercolours. We painted beautiful watercolour backgrounds and, using the bottoms of cups, the girls printed bubble patterns. Next, they drew jellyfish onto their artwork before adding glue, sprinkling salt, and dabbing watercolour paint on top to create a lovely tie-dye effect. This activity helped develop the children’s creativity, fine motor skills, and understanding of different art techniques. The results were fantastic, and the girls are very proud of their ocean art work!
It has been a fun and engaging few weeks of learning, full of creativity, exploration, and discovery 🌊
